MT. Olivet Baptist Church Job Opportunity: Minister of Music

The Minister of Music is a trained, Christian music professional committed to Christ and the Church.  The Minister of Music oversees the entire music department to ensure that the music ministry operates in a spiritual and orderly manner that supports the Church’s mission and the Pastor’s vision.

 

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Has accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior as evidenced by a Christian Lifestyle
  • Recognizes and accepts music as the ministry of Jesus Christ
  • Active participation in continuous Christian education
  • Formal music training (e.g. higher education, proven ability to read, conduct, and play piano and organ)
  • Minimum three (3) years previous music leadership experience in a church setting
  • Proven ability to develop, implement and conduct diverse musical repertoire (e.g. contemporary/traditional gospel, hymns, anthems, spirituals)
  • Experience in the organization of church choirs and teaching Christian music
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Excellent Oral and written Communication Skills
  • Works well in a team environment

 

General Duties/Responsibilities:

 

  • Provide leadership and direction for the music ministry
  • Plan and coordinate all music as it relates to all church worship services, special services, concerts and outside engagements as directed by the Pastor
  • Develop and implement music strategy and direction for all musical entities (e.g. Praise and Worship team, ensembles, choirs, musicians). Teach music as required.
  • Serve as chairperson of the Music Ministry coordinating the scheduling of all rehearsals, all ministry communications and activities
  • Provide management support of music repertoire on behalf of all musical entities
  • Collaborate with the Trustee Ministry to develop and manage the Music Ministry Budget
  • Supervise, develop, coach and mentor Music Ministry Staff and personnel as needed
  • Attend all funerals or ensure that there are musicians at the service.  Network with the families to determine their needs and/or requests
  • Attend Church Leadership Meetings
