Music Director

 

Youth Choir

 

 

 

POSITION SUMMARY

 

This position is defined as part-time. The Music Director will prepare the Youth Choir and Praise Team for Worship Services and other occasions. The Music Director must have the ability to read music and teach four-part (SATB) harmony. This person will also give direction to and work with the Youth Choir Keyboardist and other instrumentalists. At least two years of experience teaching/directing choirs is required.

 

 

 

PURPOSE

 

To provide leadership and adequate preparation of the Youth Choir, Praise Team, and Band for scheduled rehearsals, worship services, and other occasions in support of the Music Ministry of the church.

 

 

 

SKILLS NEEDED

 

  • Ability to conduct and direct a Youth choir.

  • Ability to teach four-part (SATB) harmony.

  • Ability to sight-read.

  • Ability to take direction, as well as give direction to others.

  • Experience and demonstrated competence in working with children of all ages.

  • Experience and demonstrated competence in performing a variety of church music styles.

  • Excellent communication skills.

 

 

 

ACCOUNTABILITY

 

Accountable to the Minister of Music and Pastor. Receives direction from the Minister of Music.

 

 

 

Must notify the Minister of Music a minimum of two weeks prior to planned absences.

 

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Rehearse two times each month with Youth Choir, Praise Team, and band as scheduled.

  • Conduct/direct the Youth Choir, Praise Team, and other musicians during scheduled Worship Services and other occasions.

  • Support the church’s worship environment through the well-prepared execution of music presented by the Youth Choir, Praise Team, and Band.

  • Support the church’s Worship experience by conducting/directing hymns.

  • Plan, prepare, rehearse, and present appropriate music for scheduled Worship Services and other required occasions to support the Music Ministry of the church.

  • Plan and prepare materials in advance of rehearsals to ensure an effective and efficient choir rehearsal.

  • Communicate appropriate music schedule information and other directions to Youth Choir staff, and instrumentalists in a timely manner.

  • Develop the choir’s repertoire by the introduction of current and innovative youthful music.

  • Prepare for Choir and Praise Team rehearsal times to achieve a high quality music program.

  • Attend Music Ministry Leadership Team meetings as requested.

Keyboardist

 

(Organ/Piano)

 

 

 

POSITION SUMMARY

 

This position is defined as part-time. The Keyboardist will accompany the Youth Choir on organ and/or piano. The Keyboardist must have the ability to read music, as well as play “by ear.” This person will also work with other instrumentalists and have strong keyboard knowledge. At least two years of experience accompanying choirs is required.

 

 

 

PURPOSE

 

To provide organ and/or piano accompaniment for scheduled rehearsals, worship services, and other occasions in support of the Music Ministry of the church.

 

 

 

SKILLS NEEDED

 

  • Primary ability to play the organ.

  • Secondary ability to play the piano/keyboard.

  • Ability to sight-read.

  • Ability to improvise and play “by ear.”

  • Ability to take direction and work as a team member.

  • Experience and demonstrated competence in working with children of all ages.

  • Experience and demonstrated competence in performing a variety of church music styles.

  • Excellent communication skills.

Accountable to the Music Director, Minister of Music, and Pastor. Receives music selections from the Music Director and work direction from the Minister of Music.

  • Support the church’s worship environment through the well-prepared execution of music presented by the Youth Choir, Praise Team, and Band.

  • Support the church’s Worship experience by adequately preparing hymns, preludes, and postludes, as well as other Worship Service music (i.e., music for prayers and Altar calls).

  • Provide assistance as requested in planning, preparing, rehearsing, and playing appropriate music for scheduled Worship Services and other required occasions to support the Music Ministry of the church.

  • Prepare for Choir and Praise Team rehearsal times to achieve a high quality music program.

  • Attend Music Ministry Leadership Team meetings as requested.
